Dispatch Department
I joined Freshways in April, 2016 but Freshways has been a part of my family life for a lot longer. My dad works in Stores and has done for the past 21 years. As a young boy I went to Freshways summer fun days with my family and never thought I would someday work here. Freshways has a family feel to it and who knows I might be here in 21 years’ time! I work in the ‘Despatch–Goods Out’ area of the business. I pack product for delivery to various customers ensuring our quality product reaches them on time. Service and delivery on time are among our top priorities here at Freshways. I work with a great team and we all help each other to get the job done to a high standard. I am involved in different committees within Freshways which gives me the benefit of working in different teams and meeting people from all areas of the business. Being part of various committees also gives me the opportunity to learn other areas of the business.Continuous Improvement Department
I joined Freshways in March 2020 as a ‘Continuous Improvement Specialist’. From the moment I joined the Freshways team, I knew I would be working with a close-knit group which had a family feel to it, a family which I now feel very much part of! My role here at Freshways is to assess our current work processes and standards and subsequently lead projects to improve them. One of the benefits of leading such projects is that I get to engage with a multitude of the people from almost every department. This has allowed me to broaden my knowledge of the business. Another important part of the role is to drive the continuous improvement culture within the workplace. More often than not, it’s the employee on the assembly floor who’s the expert on the manufacturing processes, therefore encouraging and engaging with my colleagues on the floor is fundamental to my approach. Providing a platform to tap into the wealth of knowledge they possess is key to the success of any project.Supply Chain Department
I joined the ‘Supply Chain’ in Freshways in September 2018, straight after completing my Masters in ‘Supply Chain’. At first, I started with low lead time procurement but over the time, my role developed. The senior management team, including my manager, identified my passion and potential for the job and trained me in every aspect of ‘Supply Chain’. By the time I completed two years at Freshways, I had worked, handled and had gained knowledge of basic procurement, capacity and production planning. I am now currently looking after customs and import procedures. The management pays a great deal of attention to continuous improvement. It can be a new equipment or machinery, sophisticated IT systems, best industry practices and even bringing in external consultants and industry experts for their opinion. They always encourage me to grow and develop by giving me new responsibilities and involving me in projects.Production Kitchen Department
I arrived in Ireland in 2006 and starting working at Freshways as a ‘General Operative’. It was my first time working in Ireland and my first time working in a food factory. I got to know the systems and the procedures quickly and developed a taste for food production and factory life. I was very soon promoted to ‘Quality Controller’ and then to team leader. I really enjoy the daily challenges that food production brings and love to meet them head on! I work with all of the other team leaders to ensure that we are all helping each other along the way to make sure that our customers and consumers get orders. The supervisors are always there to support you and I really feel that I’ve the help and encouragement to achieve both the company targets and my own personal goals.
